Pakistan: Action against 12 sugar mills for not paying sugarcane dues

Lahore, Pakistan: Pakistan Government has cracked whip on the 12 sugar mills that have failed to clear the cane arrears around Rs 1.34 billion of the sugarcane farmers. The cane commissioner has issued orders to take action against such mills.

According to the media report, most of the mills belong to the political leaders. Nadeem Abbas Bhangu, Cane Commissioner said, “Out of 41 sugar mills in Punjab region, 29 have cleared 100 per cent cane arrears and remaining mills have been declared defaulters. We will soon initiate legal action against them.”

He has referred these cases to the deputy commissioners of the concerned districts to take appropriate action.
