The Pakistan Cabinet on Thursday overturned the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) to allow the import of sugar from India.
The ECC had recommended the Cabinet to revive the trade that was suspended for the last two years.
A Cabinet meeting chaired by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan rejected the ECC’s decision on Thursday.
Pakistan had unilaterally suspended trade with India in August 2019 after India scrapped Article 370 and merged Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories.
Finance Minister Hammad Azhar had on Wednesday stated that the government is considering importing sugar from India to arrest rising prices of sugar in the domestic market.
The decision was considered as one of the major steps to improve the relations between neighbouring countries.
