Lahore: Farmers’ organization Pakistan Kissan Ittehad has demanded that the government should take steps to reduce sugar prices and initiate action against the sugar mafia which hampered the sugarcane farmers.
Speaking to reporters in a press conference, President of the organization Khalid Mehmood Khokhar said, “Government should return money looted by sugar mafia from farmers. We respect the sugar Inquiry Commission report.”
He accused the sugar mill owners of trying to destroy agriculture in Pakistan. “The government should design a five year policy for sugarcane sector and the looted wealth from sugar barons should be distributed among farmers,” Khokhar further added.
