Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has given in-principle approval to export 40,000 metric tons of sugar to Tajikistan. On Friday, this was decided upon at a meeting by the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, reports Business Recorder.
During the ECC meeting, a proposal from the Ministry of Industries and Production regarding sugar export to Tajikistan was discussed. While the committee approved in principle, it requested further discussions with the Tajik entity before finalizing the sale agreement.
The Ministry of Industries and Production, in collaboration with the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), will oversee the sugar export process. The ECC also approved the export of an additional 100,000 metric tons of surplus sugar, following discussions about the current sugar stock. The committee was informed that domestic sugar prices have been declining since July, and there are sufficient supplies to meet local demand through January.
The meeting was attended by key government officials, including the Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, and other senior officers from various ministries and divisions.
