Pakistan: FIA launches monitoring drive to ensure transparency in sugar mills

Lahore: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has started a monitoring campaign to monitor sugar mills during the current crushing season. The move, directed by the Prime Minister, aims to stop tax evasion and ensure transparency in sugar production and sales, reports The News.

Special teams have been formed to oversee key activities at the mills. These include keeping track of sugar production, checking stock levels, and recording daily sales. The teams will also document the delivery of sugarcane and the number of trolleys arriving at the mills.

In Lahore, FIA teams are already monitoring three major sugar mills. Sarfraz Khan Virrk, the FIA Director for the Lahore Zone, met with these teams to assign their tasks. He stressed the importance of this campaign, saying, “Stopping tax evasion is an important duty, and carelessness will not be allowed.”

The teams are mandated to work responsibly and submit their findings to the FIA headquarters regularly.

This is part of a broader government campaign to address some of the problems in the sugar industry, including allegations of tax evasion and poor stock management. The FIA aims to make the sugar industry more transparent and efficient through proper record-keeping and the prevention of illegal practices.
