Lahore: The government has granted permission to the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) to export half a million tonnes of sugar, reports ARY News.
The PSMA had urged the government to allow them to export one million tonnes of sugar, said, industry officials.
The export would bring in $250 million and the government has stated that the domestic prices won’t be affected due to sugar exports.
The Sugar Advisory Board decides on the export and in the first phase one lakh tonnes of sugar will be exported. After taking review, an additional five lakh tonnes of sugar will be exported in the next fortnight, as per the ministry of production.
The sugar millers have welcomed the government’s decision. Sugar mills started harvesting cane after the government agreed to allow them to export sugar.
