Islamabad: Pakistan government has decided to allow the export of about 100,000-150,000 tonnes of sugar, in principle, as per the demand made by the millers, reports The Express Tribune.
According to the media report, the government would allow the export of at least 100,000 tons of sugar.
The officials of the Ministry of National Food Security stated that there were suggestions to allow the export of 150,000 tons.
The final decision would be taken in a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet.
Sugar millers can earn at least $53 million or nearly Rs 12 billion by exporting 100,000 tons of sugar.
Last week the government turned down the millers’ demand to allow them to export 1 million tons of sugar.
The food security minister and the ministry on Monday backed the proposal for the export of sugar, said sources.
