Pakistan: Government sets Ramzan sugar price at Rs 130 per kg, ensures availability through special stalls

Islamabad: The federal government has fixed the price of sugar at Rs 130 per kilogram for the month of Ramazan. To ensure availability, sugar mills across the country will set up special stalls, reports Profit.

The decision was announced by Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain during a meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board. The meeting focused on keeping sugar prices stable throughout the holy month.

Under the plan, sugar mills will offer sugar in small 1-2 kg packs at these stalls. Each person will be allowed to buy up to 5 kg by showing their CNIC. The stalls will start operating three days before Ramazan and continue until the 27th day of the month.

The minister stressed the importance of a smooth supply and directed officials to manage distribution properly. He also called for better coordination between the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA), district administrations, and the cane commissioner to prevent shortages, long lines, or mismanagement at the stalls.

To make sugar more accessible, the government will set up more stalls and expand them to local municipal committees in different districts. Minister Tanveer assured that he and the chief secretaries would personally monitor the process to ensure the plan is carried out successfully.
