Pakistan: PM’s high level committee to monitor sugar stocks to ensure timely decisions on exports

The government has officially notified the establishment of a high-level committee, appointed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to create an effective system for monitoring and reporting sugar stocks to support timely export decisions.

The committee, led by the Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, consists of federal ministers, senior officials, and prominent economic experts, including Dr. Abid Qaiyum Suleri, Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), as stated in an official press release.

The committee’s role includes analyzing data on sugar production, consumption, and stock levels, identifying any inconsistencies, and recommending a streamlined framework to enable data-driven decision-making.

Dr. Suleri, a renowned economist with expertise in sustainable development and economic policy, will contribute valuable insights to the committee’s discussions.

The committee is expected to submit its recommendations to the Prime Minister within two weeks, aiming to support informed policy decisions that protect consumer interests, stabilize the market, and enhance economic efficiency.
