Quetta: Sugar prices in the retail market of Balochistan have peaked at Rs 170 per kg, increasing the misery of people residing in the province, according to pakistantoday.
Sugar was sold at Rs 145 per kg in the province.
After the suspension of the permits, the vehicles got stuck on the national highways which affected the sugar supply causing price hikes, said the dealers.
Simultaneously, short-term inflation, as gauged by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), maintains an upward trajectory, with a year-on-year surge of 27.57 percent for the week ending on August 17, as per official data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
On a week-to-week basis, short-term inflation increased by 0.78 percent, indicating persistent acceleration without any apparent indications of slowing down. This trend is causing concerns among both economists and consumers.
