Lahore: In a joint effort to strengthen collaboration in the sugarcane sector, officials from Pakistan and China engaged in discussions on Tuesday, exploring avenues to produce high-quality sugar for global export, as stated in an official release, report Pakistani media International The News.
The Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) convened a think tank session at its Lahore secretariat, bringing together experts from both nations to deliberate on potential cooperation within the sugar industry.
Highlighting the extensive possibilities in the agriculture sector, including the ‘sugar industry,’ Moazzam Ghurki, the President of PCJCCI, emphasized the need for cooperation between China and Pakistan. Ghurki expressed the view that collaborative efforts would facilitate shared learning experiences for mutual benefits.
Advocating for the adoption of modern technology and techniques in sugarcane production and processing, such as tissue culture, disease-free seedlings, and integrated pest management, Ghurki asserted that both the nations can export sugar to the world if they enhance cooperation in this field.
Fang Yulong, Senior Vice President of PCJCCI, stated that while Pakistan has a rich agricultural tradition, there is still work to be done to align the sector with international standards.
