Pune: Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, the newly appointed sugarcane commissioner of Maharashtra, has issued a warning to sugar mills in the state, urging them to promptly pay the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) to farmers. Failure to comply will result in appropriate action being taken against the defaulting mills, as reported by Agrowon.
Dr. Pulkundwar has set a deadline of June 30 for all sugar mills in the state to fulfill their FRP obligations. Currently, there are 21 sugar mills that have yet to clear their dues with farmers.
“Our department remains committed to working for the welfare of sugarcane farmers. By cultivating sugarcane, farmers are reaping the benefits of favorable returns, as the sector thrives through the sale of both sugar and ethanol. We will continue to address the issues faced by these farmers,” affirmed Dr. Pulkundwar.
