Pending cane arrears: Only 2 out of 17 properties of sugar mill auctioned

In response to the non-payment of Rs 27 crore in arrears to sugarcane growers, the administration conducted an auction on Friday for 17 properties of Golden Sandhar Sugar Mills, Phagwara. However, only two properties, both owned by mill directors, were successfully auctioned, reported Tribune India.
According to the news report, Phagwara Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jashanjit Singh said that 54 kanal 7 marla land of Harpreet Singh Bains in village Bidd-Dhandoli was bid for Rs 1 crore 6 lakh by Rajiv Kumar while 22 kanal 4 marla land of Dalbir Kaur Bains in village Rawalpindi was bid for Rs 1.23 crore by Harneet Singh. SDM Singh stated that the auctions will be finalized only after receiving confirmation from the High Court.
