Pune: Taking action against the sugar mills that have failed to clear the pending cane arrears, the Maharashtra government has put on hold the licenses of sugar mills in the state.
Sugarcane crushing season commenced in the state and mills are doing their best to raise funds to clear the pending arrears.
According to the news report published in The Times of India, Shekhar Gaikwad, state sugar commissioner said, “We have granted licenses to 90 sugar mills that have cleared the cane dues of the farmers.”
20 sugar factories had paid the cane dues in the past three days after their licences were put on hold. As many as 190 sugar mills had applied for crushing licenses for season 2020-21.
