Indonesia: Garuda conducts inaugural commercial flight using Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Jakarta: Pertamina and Garuda Indonesia conducted the inaugural commercial commercial flight using Pertamina’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), reported The Jakarta Post.

The flight took off from Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang and landed at Adi Soemarmo International Airport in Surakarta on October 27. This flight represents a significant contribution by Indonesian state-owned enterprises (SOEs) towards reducing emissions and aligning with Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission (NZE) target.

Alfian Nasution, Director of Logistics and Infrastructure at Pertamina, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting the Indonesian government’s NZE objective by developing decarbonization assets and a green business development roadmap, which includes the introduction of SAF in the aviation sector. He emphasized that this inaugural flight marks a historic milestone for sustainable aviation and offers the public a fresh experience with renewable energy, contributing directly to emissions reduction.
