The prices of sugar continue to soar in the Philippines and the Department of Agriculture (DA) is planning to implement a suggested retail price (SRP) scheme for the sweetener.
Speaking to reporters after attending the meeting organised by the president and Agriculture secretary, Kristine Y. Evangelista, Agriculture Undersecretary said, “We have set a stakeholders meeting to discuss it. It will start with a small group of stakeholders and eventually, we will also ask the Sugar Regulatory Administration.”
As per the Department of Agriculture, the average retail price of sugar in the markets was P87.50 per kilo as of July 8 and at some markets it was P90.
The consumers have however stated that they are paying P100 for sugar in the domestic markets.
