Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the sugar industry in the Philippines is performing well, informed an official from SRA (Sugar Regulatory Administration).
Emilio Yulo III, SRA Board Member said, the industry is operating with full of its speed. We hope the situation continues, particularly when the weather gets hotter as it will contribute to improving the pureza of our planters
The prices of sugar fell to P1, 500 per 50 kg bag. The rates are fair for consumers and least profitable to the industry, he further added.
The good performance of the industry has been attributed to the milling speed and uninterrupted activities.
There were several restrictions on sugarcane workers to avoid the spread of coronavirus and have excelled during this period by increasing the productivity of their work.
