Manila: Manuel Lamata, president of the United Sugar Producers Federation (UNIFED) has issued a statement urging the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) to scrap the allocation of A Sugar for the United States as the supply is not likely to meet local demand.
According to Philstar.com, Lamata has said that if the country needs to import sugar to meet domestic sugar demand then there is no point in allocating sugar for the US market.
The statement was made in anticipation of SRA’s issuance of Sugar Order No.1, which will lay down the crop policy for season 2021 to 2022.
Lamata said that the government in the past had scrapped the A sugar allocation when sugar production was not enough to meet the domestic demand.
