Hyderabad: Politics surrounding the construction of the ethanol factory in Telangana seems to be heating up, with both the ruling party and the opposition attacking each other. Recently, fresh protests broke out in Dilawarpur, located in Telangana’s Nirmal district, as local residents organized a large demonstration against the construction of the ethanol factory on National Highway 61. In response, the district authorities ordered the suspension of construction work at the site.
The ruling Congress party in Telangana has accused the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of “double standards” regarding an ethanol factory project. The Congress claims that the BRS when in power, had approved the establishment of the factory, which is now being opposed by the same party, reported The New Indian Express.
Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Dansari Anasuya alleged that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and former IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao, along with the central BJP government, had given the green light to the factory. The BRS government had even issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) and allocated water from the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme for the project.
Congress state chief B. Mahesh Kumar Goud said the BRS had made anti-people and anti-farmer policies during its term. He clarified that the Congress government was not a party to the sanction process and would take all the pros and cons of the factory into account before taking a final call.
According to the media report, former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav rejected the allegations linking him to the factory with all seriousness, challenging Congress leaders to prove their accusations by accepting ownership of the factory and transferring the ownership if he is proven guilty.
Villagers from Gundampalli, Samundarpalli, Rathnapurkandli, and Dilawarpur have been protesting the establishment of the ethanol factory. They argue that the factory poses health risks and could harm their fertile agricultural lands.
