Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has launched a scathing attack on Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) over sugarcane payments. He accused the party of not fulfilling the promises made by them to the farmers.
In a statement issued on Thursday, he said that the BJP has not fulfilled the promise of paying the cane farmers within 14 days of sugarcane procurement.
Sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh are all set to start sugarcane crushing season. But pending cane arrears in the state have not been cleared yet. The sugar mills claim sector has not fully recovered from the lockdown. Mills are finding it difficult to sustain as sugar sales are down, which has created liquidity problem for them. Therefore they are unable to clear cane dues.
