Provide timeline for implementation of policies for sugarcane workers: Bombay HC to Maharashtra govt

The Bombay High Court has asked the Maharashtra government to provide a timeline for the implementation of proposed policies of prevention of sexual harassment, medical facilities, insurance, education, and safety for migrant sugarcane workers, reports The Hindu.

The court has taken suo motu cognizance of an article published in a newspaper regarding the financial and sexual exploitation of migrant sugarcane workers in the state.

A Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice N.M.Jamdar and Justice Arif Doctor directed the state to provide a timeline regarding the implementation of the proposed policies related to the prevention of sexual harassment, medical facilities, insurance, and education safety for migrant sugarcane workers. The Bench issued directions based on the affidavit filed by the state government in the court.
