Pune: As the sugarcane crushing season has entered the last phase for the ongoing crushing season, the sugar mills in the state are closing their operations. Till April 18, 146 sugar mills in the state have closed their operations.
Total 31 sugar mills from the Pune region had participated in the cane crushing operations and so far 23 mills have stopped operations. The mills have produced 247.81 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 226.80 lakh tonne sugarcane. The average sugar recovery in the Pune region is around 11 per cent. Mills have registered 10.93 per cent sugar recovery.
Total 190 sugar mills had participated in the cane crushing operations in the country. Till April 18 mills have crushed 998.33 lakh tonne sugarcane and produced 1046.20 lakh quintal sugar. The recovery rate of sugarcane in the state till date is around 10.48%.
