Punjab: Administration to take stern action against sugar mill for not paying cane dues

Phagwara: The indefinite dharna staged by sugarcane growers, organised under the banner of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), Doaba, has entered its third day, reported Tribune India. Earlier, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian at a Mohali meeting on Thursday had assured to resolve the issue of non-payment of arrears amounting to Rs 41.72 crore at the earliest.

According to the news report published in The Tribune, Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner (DC) Karnail Singh has taken a decisive step by instructing Phagwara Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Amit Kumar Panchal to immediately seal the Golden Sandhar Sugar Mills, with the assistance of the local police. The DC also instructed the ADC to inform him immediately after sealing the mill.

In response to these instructions, the ADC has enlisted the aid of Phagwara SDM Jai Inder Singh to ensure strict compliance with the DC’s directives.

BKU (Doaba) General Secretary Satnam Singh Sahni has affirmed that the indefinite dharna will persist until their demands are met.
