Punjab Congress MLA Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa on Thursday urged the Punjab government to release the pending dues to sugarcane growers.
Speaking during zero hour, the Fatehgarh Churian legislator highlighted that the state government had announced a State Advised Price (SAP) of ₹401 per quintal for sugarcane, with ₹55 per quintal to be contributed by the state. However, the state’s share has not been released.
He further pointed out that ₹47 crore is still pending for a sugar mill in Batala, which is operated in a cooperative mode.
In addition, Bajwa demanded the repair of Bhalowali road, which serves as a lifeline for 50-60 villages in his constituency.
AAP legislator from Amritsar (Central), Ajay Gupta, raised concerns about the difficulties small shop owners in Amritsar face when renewing their electricity meters. He said they are required to obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the master town planning department, which is a challenging task. Gupta requested the government to ease this process.
AAP MLA from Moga, Amandeep Kaur, demanded that property registries be allowed in Battanganj, a locality in her constituency developed by the British in 1901. She argued that other similar colonies in the state have been allowed property registries and requested that her constituency be treated the same.
Vijay Singla, AAP MLA from Mansa, requested that the road leading from the thermal plant in Banawali village to Bhikhi, Sunam, Bhawanigarh, and Patiala be strengthened.
In response, PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO informed the House that the estimates and tendering process for strengthening the road are underway. He also mentioned that for the section of the road under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), estimates and proposals have been sent for approval.
Finally, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Nachhatar Pal demanded a holiday on Buddha Purnima, which falls on May 12.
