Chandigarh: The Punjab government has released Rs 100 crore pending sugarcane arrears. It has been deposited in the accounts of the cane farmers, reports Tribune India.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has released an official statement stating Rs 295.60 crore was the pending arrears of sugarcane farmers which had to be paid by the government and cooperative sugar mills in the state.
The government had already paid Rs 100 crore on July 29 and the remaining arrears were Rs 195.60 crore, he said. He had promised the farmers to clear Rs 100 crore by August 15 and the remaining 95.60 crores by September 7.
As per the promise, the government cleared the payment of Rs 100 crore to the farmers on Thursday.
