Gurdaspur: The assets and manpower of Kalanaur-based Guru Nanak Sugarcane Research and Development Institute (GNSRDI) will be transferred to the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) as per the MoU signed by the government, reports Tribune India.com.
Shivraj Pal Singh Dhaliwal, founder director, GNSRDI said, the decision will be beneficial for thousands of farmers in Majha.
This will help in transferring the ownership of the institute from cash-strapped sugar-fed to one of the premier institutes working for farmers.
The initiative has been seen as one of the major steps to provide direct and indirect employment through allied units.
Former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa had convinced the people of Kalanaur to allot 100 acres of the land out of 1600 acres of land in its possession to the institute.
