Bathinda: In response to concern about children consuming more sugar, the Punjab School Education Department has instructed all schools to set up dedicated display boards called “sugar boards.” The aim of this initiative is to keep track of and lower the amount of sugar children are eating, reported The Tribune.
This action comes after suggestions from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
According to an official letter issued by the department to all the District Education Officers (DEOs) in the state, excessive sugar consumption is a key factor contributing to obesity and diabetes in children.
The new directive intends to increase awareness about how much sugar children of different ages should consume daily.
The campaign will also focus on limiting the availability of unhealthy snacks and sugary beverages on school grounds and encouraging healthier food and drink choices, according to the media report.
The Education Department has told the DEOs to make sure these instructions are strictly followed.
