Rain is deficient in 50 per cent of districts in India

Pune: The El Nino phenomenon has started showing the impact on Monsoon in India as 50% of 716 districts in the country have received less rainfall, as per the IMD data, reports The Times Of India.

Overall rain deficiency in the country from June 1 to 14 is 53%.

According to experts, El Nino has begun showing its impact on the Southwest monsoon in India. Rain deficiency in Maharashtra has been reported to be 79-80% as the monsoon has not reached all the parts of the state.

Akshay Deoras, a research scientist at the University of Reading, UK said, “El Nino will be impacting monsoon in India throughout the season.”

GP Sharma, president, of Skymet said, “Cyclone Biparjoy affected the onset of monsoon in India. It is likely to remain weak for the next one week.”
