Rajasthan: Farmers demand Increase in crushing capacity of sugar mill

Kesrisinghpur, Rajasthan: On Sunday, sugarcane farmers from Kaminpura submitted a memorandum to former state minister Surendra Pal Singh, in the name of the Chief Minister, demanding an increase in the crushing capacity of the Kaminpura sugar mill and the reopening of the closed distillery.

Kartar Singh, president of the Sugarcane Producers’ Management Committee, Pritpal Singh, secretary, and Sanmeet Singh, said that due to the failure of the cotton crop this year, farmers without irrigation pipes have shifted to sugarcane cultivation. Therefore, the area under sugarcane is expected to increase in the coming season. Given this, the farmers are demanding that the crushing capacity of the mill be increased along with the area so that the farmers of the region can get full benefit.

The farmers said that the current crushing capacity of the mill is around 15,000 quintals. However, all the sugarcane is not being crushed at present, due to which farmers are forced to take their sugarcane to mills in Punjab. The demand is that if the crushing capacity of the mill is increased to 25,000 quintals per day, it will provide relief to the farmers of the region.
