Ramala: Two workers were killed in an accident in Ramala cooperative sugar mill, Uttar Pradesh last year, and the mill paid compensation of Rs 22.40 lakh to the deceased family. Following this, the mill has now stopped providing job to the workers from nearby villages stating that there is no work in the mill. The workers are facing a tough time as they are jobless, and it has become difficult for them to meet their daily needs.
Several accidents were reported in the mill premises last year. The workers had alleged that the reason behind mishaps was due to lack of safety and not using helmets and safety belts. Last week district magistrate Shakuntala Gautam inspected the mill and asked the administration to ensure workers safety. As many as 250 persons have lost job from the mill in last one year.
