Lucknow: Well-known sugarcane pathologist Rasappa Viswanathan is the new director of the Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research (IISR), Lucknow, reports The Times of India.
He took charge of the institute after Prof A D Pathak completed his term on Friday.
Viswanathan was earlier head of the division of crop protection at Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore. He has experience of more than 31 years in the field of research, academic and agriculture sectors. His work has helped in identifying 14 red rot-resistant sugarcane varieties and published 275 research papers in several scientific journals.
