The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved higher ethanol prices derived from different sugarcane based raw materials under the EBP Programme for the forthcoming sugar season 2022-23. And the prices for grain based ethanol have also been announced.
The Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) period has been redefined to 1st November to 31st October of next year from 1st November 2023 onwards. In view of the change in ESY period, the ESY 2022-23 period will be considered from 1st December 2022 to 31st October 2023.
Government has advanced the target of 20% ethanol blending in petrol from earlier 2030 to 2025. The target of 10 percent blending under the programme has been achieved in June 2022 much ahead of the targeted timelines of November 2022.
According to apex industry body ISMA’s DG Sonjoy Mohanty, “ESY 2022-23 is a crucial year, as the country is expected to achieve 12% ethanol blending. The total requirement is 651 crore liters of ethanol. Sugar mills are expected to divert about 45 lakh tons of sugar towards ethanol production.”
