Ration sugar price may increase Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh: Covid-19 has impacted the financial position of many states in India and they are trying to overcome from this by adopting various means. Andhra Pradesh too is struggling to come in a better position. According to the news report published in The Hindu, sugar and red gram being supplied to white ration cardholders in the state are set to become costly with the government reportedly making it clear that it will not be possible to continue the subsidy on these two essential commodities. Also, the state government has asked the Civil Supplies Department to work out the mechanism “independently.”

This may affect the huge number of ration cardholders in the state. However, the scheme will continue for Antyodaya Anna Yojana cardholders (1.60 lakh). They will continue to receive sugar at a subsidised rate as the Central government bears their subsidy.
