Chandigarh: Raising the voice against the delay in cane payments by the ruling Congress government in Punjab, its own party leaders have taken up the issue with the government. In a recent move, Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa and three MLAs have written a letter to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to address the issue on a priority basis.
He also shared a video on Twitter, where he alleged that the party is not taking any steps to address the farmers’ issues to clear the pending arrears worth Rs 681 crore.
He said, “I would like to draw your attention towards non-payment of dues to about 70,000 sugarcane growing farmer families. I urge that the state government makes all pending payments to the eligible farmers. The unpaid amount for 2018-19 season was Rs 96.36 crore and that for 2019-20 was Rs 585.12 crore.”
