As per the reservoir storage bulletin issued on March 14, 2024, the live storage available in the country’s 150 reservoirs stands at 70.746 BCM, accounting for 40% of their total live storage capacity. This figure indicates a decrease compared to last year’s corresponding period, which recorded 84.122 BCM in live storage, constituting 84% of the previous year’s storage.
In North India, the total water available in reservoirs amounts to 6.744 BCM, equivalent to 34% of their total live storage capacity. This marks a decrease from the previous year’s figure of 39%.
Contrarily, East India displays improved storage conditions, with a total storage capacity of 10.363 BCM, representing 50.7% of the reservoirs’ total live storage capacity. This surpasses last year’s corresponding period, which recorded 45% storage.
However, the Western region experiences a decline in storage, with 17.815 BCM of live storage, constituting 48% of the total live storage capacity, compared to 57% recorded during the same period last year.
Similarly, in the central region, the total live storage available is 22.770 BCM, amounting to 47% of the total live storage capacity, indicating a decrease from last year’s 49%.
In the Southern region, the total live storage stands at 13.054 BCM, representing 24% of the total live storage capacity. This signifies a decrease from the corresponding period of last year, which recorded 42% in storage.
