Lucknow: The state excise department is playing a major role in boosting the ethanol sector in the state, said UP Additional Chief Secretary (excise) Sanjay R Bhoosreddy, reports Business Standard.
State’s excise revenue has increased by 13% to Rs 41, 252 crores as the department is boosting ethanol production apart from cracking down on illicit liquor trade, he said.
The new excise policy of the state aims to attract private investment in the ethanol sector that would boost farm income, provide a market to farm produce and create new jobs.
Ethanol is a by-product of sugar and it plays a major role in India’s top sugarcane-producing state like UP, he said. The ethanol blending with petrol is helping India to reduce its oil import bills. The Centre has made it compulsory to blend 10% ethanol with petrol. The ethanol produced in UP is sent to the depots of the oil marketing companies within the state as well as outside the state.
