Lucknow: A delegation of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) met Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel on Tuesday and acquainted her with the plight of sugarcane farmers including the pending cane dues.
The 12-member delegation included working state president Manjeet Singh, national spokesman Anil Dubey, team convener Anupam Mishra and others.
The delegation handed over a 10-point memorandum of demands to the governor. Sharing the details about the memorandum, Dubey said, for the fiscal year 2021-22, the private and cooperative sugar mills owe dues worth Rs 1,77,648.96 crore. The increase in the input costs has increased the crop cost but the farmers are not getting the right price.
“The promise of doubling farmers’ income has turned out to be a farce. Farmers do not have money for their daily expenses and are unable to pay their medical bills and educational fees,” he said.
The farmers should get their arrears with interest on it, demanded the delegation.
