Russia does not plan to extend the ban on sugar exports beyond August 31, 2024, according to a report by TASS, citing the Russian Agriculture Ministry, reports API Inform.
“Currently, there are no plans to continue the temporary ban on the export of cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose after August 31,” the ministry stated.
It also said that future decisions would depend on the harvest of sugar beet in the forthcoming season, and any decision would be made by consultations with the partners headed by the Eurasian Economic Union.
It may be noted that in May 2024, the government of Russia established a ban on exporting cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose for some period. The ban was effective until August 31st and was designed to stabilize the current situation in the domestic food market.
