Saharanpur: Farmers demand hike in cane purchase price

Saharanpur: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh have demanded a hike in the sugarcane purchase price to Rs 400 per quintal and clearance of pending cane dues of the previous crushing season with interest on it.

According to the news report published in Jagran.com, the BKS had organized a meeting of farmers during which the state convenor of the organization Shyamveer Tyagi reiterated the demand.

Thakur Harveer Singh, president of Meerut division demanded that the government should ensure that the sugar mills start cane crushing operations from October 15 so that the farmers could clear their fields and take up the next crop for cultivation.
