Saharanpur: Despite various efforts, three out of the eight sugar mills in the district still have outstanding payments to farmers for sugarcane. These three mills owe approximately ₹132 crore to the farmers, reports Amar Ujala.
The district has a total of eight sugar mills, but three of them have not yet cleared their dues. According to the rules, payment for sugarcane supplied to a mill should be made within 14 days. If the payment is delayed, the mills are supposed to pay interest on the outstanding amount. However, farmers are neither receiving timely payments nor interest on the delayed payments.
The Ganganoli sugar mill has the highest amount of unpaid dues. District Cane Officer Sushil Kumar stated that notices have been issued to the mills that are delaying payments. The District Magistrate has also instructed these mills to clear their outstanding dues promptly.
