Sanjivani sugar mill workers threaten to go on strike if demands not met

Ponda: Workers associated with the Sanjivani Sugar Mill have threatened to go on strike from September 1 if the government fails to resolve their pending demands.

According to the news report published in Heraldgoa.in, the workers have complained that they have not received their salaries for the last two months. They have stated that they urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to take steps to address their issues before Ganesh Chaturthi.

“We were getting the salary from the administrator appointed by the government but for the last two months, we have not received any salary. Most of the workers are dependent on salary and are not able to pay the monthly installments,” said a worker.

There are a total of 107 confirmed workers of the sugar mill and during the COVID-19 pandemic, as many as 70 workers were on COVID-19 duty in various hospitals as instructed by South Goa District Collector.
