Yamunanagar: The state government has not yet announced the State Advisory Price (SAP) of sugarcane for the ongoing season but the Saraswati Sugar Mill has decided to pay some amount of cane payment to the farmers to help them overcome financial distress, reports Tribune India.
We are clearing the part payment to the cane farmers and will clear the remaining amount once the government announces SAP, said the officials of the mill.
The sugar mill on Wednesday paid Rs 55 crore to 9,927 farmers that have supplied cane to the mill up to November 30.
As many as 20,000 farmers of Yamunanagar, Ambala and Kurukshetra are associated with the sugar mill.
“Taking note of the financial crisis faced by farmers on a day-to-today basis, we decided to pay some part of their cane bills now and the remaining amount will be cleared once the government fixes SAP for the current crushing season,” said DP Singh, senior vice-president (cane) of the sugar mill.
