Sugarcane crushing season in Uttar Pradesh is in the last leg and the state has witnessed decline in sugar production this season. But on cane payment front, mills are ensuring faster payment.
As per the data available with the state government, sugar mills in the state have produced 98.22 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 969.85 lakh tonnes of cane till April 28, 2022. They have cleared cane dues amounting to Rs 23,198.74 crore which is 72.43 per cent of the total dues. In the last season, mills had produced 110.59 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 1027.50 lakh tonnes of sugarcane.
The state government’s efforts have helped cane farmers get Rs 23,198.74 crore cane dues during the 2021-22 season, Rs 32,931.63 crore during the 2020-21 season, Rs 35,898.85 crore during the 2019-20 season, Rs 33,048.06 crore during 2018-19 season, and Rs 35,444.06 crore during 2017-18 season to the cane farmers.
