Pilibhit: All the sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh have closed operations as the crushing season for 2021-22 has come to an end.
The sugar mills have produced 1024 quintals of sugar by crushing 10,146 lakh quintal sugarcane this season. In previous season, the mills had produced 110.59 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 1027.50 lakh tonnes of sugarcane.
The sugar mills have cleared 76.99 per cent of the cane dues to farmers till 10 June 2022 for the ongoing season which amounts to Rs 27,062.78 crore.
The government is taking all the efforts to ensure that the sugar mills clear all the pending cane dues in time.
UP ranks second in India after Maharashtra in terms of sugar production and the state has witnessed a reduction this season. The decline in sugar output is attributed to an increase in the diversion of sugar to ethanol production and the attack of pests on cane crops.
