Sugarcane crushing in Uttar Pradesh is in the last leg and the mills are expected to produce 105 lakh tonnes of sugar this season. The government is taking efforts to ensure sugar mills make timely payment.
As per government data, sugar mills in the state have produced 102.38 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 1,062.43 lakh tonnes of sugarcane till May 3, 2023. The mills have paid a total of 26,501.29 crore Rs as cane payment to the farmers which is 75.43% of the total dues.
In previous season, sugar mills in the state had produced 101.98 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 1016.26 lakh tonnes of sugarcane.
