Sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh are likely to produce 105 lakh tonnes of sugar during the 2022-23 crushing season which is in the last leg.
According to government officials, sugar mills in the state have produced 103.49 lakh tonnes of sugarcane by crushing 1,076.29 lakh tonnes of sugarcane till May 11, 2023.
Sugar mills in the state produced 101.98 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 1016.26 lakh tonnes of sugarcane during the last season.
The state government has taken efforts to speed up the payment of cane dues and so far the mills have cleared Rs 27,357.30 crore to the cane farmers which is around 75.38% of the total dues.
The state government has ensured that the sugar mills clear cane dues of farmers and the mills have cleared Rs 35,116.06 crore during the 2021-22 season, Rs 33,007.95 crore in the 2020-21 season, Rs 35898.85 crore in the 2019-20 season, Rs 33048.06 crore in the 2018-19 and Rs 35,446.06 crore in 2017-18 season.
Taking into account Rs 10,666.69 crore of previous seasons, the mills have so far cleared Rs 2,10,537.97 crore.
