The country’s average sugar recovery rate has surpassed that of the previous season, according to data from the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF) as of February 15, 2024. The average sugar recovery rate now stands at 9.86%, compared to 9.69% during the same period in the previous season.
Leading sugar-producing states Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra have experienced higher sugar recovery rates this season. In Uttar Pradesh, the sugar recovery rate currently is at 10.20%, up from 9.30% during the same period in the previous season. Similarly, Maharashtra’s sugar recovery rate has slightly exceeded that of the previous season, now at 9.90% compared to 9.85% in Uttar Pradesh during the same period.
Karnataka is observing a lower sugar recovery rate this season, reporting 9.75% compared to 10.10% during the same period in the previous season.
In the current season, sugarcane crushing is ongoing in 507 sugar mills across the country, with a total of 2268.27 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane crushed, resulting in 223.60 lakh metric tonnes of sugar produced. 26 mills have already concluded their crushing operations, out of a total of 533 mills participated in the season.
