Senior executives from sugar industry attend Executive Development Programme at NSI

Executive Development Programme commenced today at National Sugar Institute, Kanpur which is being attended by over 150 senior executives from sugar and allied industry including 15 from Indonesia, Pakistan and Uganda.
During the inaugural session, Shri R L Tamak, President, UP Sugar Mills Association of India complimented National Sugar Institute, Kanpur for organizing such programmes regularly which are very much important in the current scenario when the sugar industry has become a multi-product industry. Interactions during the programme shall help in identifying the areas to be addressed for de-bottlenecking and making sugar industry sustainable, he said.
Shri Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute in his presentation discussed upon enormous possibilities available in the sugarcane based industry. He have to look for beyond sugar and green energy as the by-products from sugar industry and even waste offer possibilities of production of many value added products. For producing many such value added bio-products, sugar industry may integrate with other industries, involve MSME’s and encourage start up’s which can bring new investments, employment opportunities and strengthening of rural economy besides making sugar industry viable, he stressed.
Shri Krishna Kumar,  (Retd.), Ex Additional Chief Secretary addressed the participants on “Ethics and Values in an Organization” for enhancing the productivity  of the unit. It starts from the top and percolates to the bottom. The executives should set example of discipline, dedication and pro-activeness with greater focus on harmony amongst the workforce.
Dr. H.S. Jat, Director, Indian Institute of Maize Research, Ludhiana discussed various aspects of ethanol production from maize. Looking to the fact that maize requires less irrigation water and two crops can be taken in a year, it can be a potential future crop for ethanol production in future when country looks for production of about 5000 million liters of ethanol from grains by 2025. Dr. S. V Patil, Advisor discussed importance of dual feed stock based ethanol units working on sugarcane juice and molasses or grains. Such units are essentially required for ensuring round the year operation of distilleries since sugar factories operated for about five months only and hence the raw material is made available by the factories in limited quantities only.
