Mumbai: A hike of coronavirus infections outside China triggered a steep fall in Indian shares today. Sensex closed on February 24, 2020 at 806.89 points lower at 40,363.23. Similarly, Nifty ended 251.45 points down at 11,829.40.
Among the sectors, metals plunged over 5 per cent followed by the auto index which fell over 3 per cent. Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Vedanta and Hindalco Industries ended the session down between 4-6 per cent.
In the previous season, Sensex closed on February 20, 2020 at 152.88 points lower at 41,170.12. Similarly, Nifty ended 45.05 points down at 12,080.85.
The rupee is trading at 71.869 against the dollar.
