Mumbai: Benchmark indices ended higher on the first day of new year. Sensex closed on 01 January at 117.65 points higher at 47,868.98. Nifty ended 36.75 points higher at 14,018.50.
In the previous season, Sensex closed on 31 December at 5.11 points higher at 47,751.33. Nifty ended almost flat at 13,981.75.
Adani Ports, ITC, TCS, M&M and SBI were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were ICICI Bank, SBI Life Insurance, Hindalco, HDFC Bank and Titan Company.
